A lot to prove for Karthik and Pietersen in IPL 7

Dinesh Karthik is the second most expensive player of IPL after being bought at a price of Rs. 12.5 crore by Delhi Daredevils in this year’s auction held in February. Sixer King Yuvraj Singh is the most expensive purchase in the IPL history as RCB purchased him for Rs. 14 crore in the same auction. Before this year’s auction KKR’s Gautam Gambhir was the most expensive bought of Rs. 11 crore. The wicket keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik failed to impress with his skills during his participation in Asia Cup for the Indian national cricket team. Karthik said, “Pressure will definitely be on me. When a corporate invests on you then it expects a lot from you but here money is not the only issue. Being a professional player you are expected to give your best for the team whether you get big money or less”.

Karthik could not take advantage of being included in the national squad for Asia Cup before the T20 World Cup when he was selected as a replacement of captain MS Dhoni. He missed few stumping chances in Asia Cup which cost India to lose matches and also he could not score effective runs with his bat. He said, “Honestly speaking then I have not done work on a certain area. Seeing my performance in the domestic T20, it is difficult to predict my form because IPL will have different challenges”. He added, “It will be early to say anything about the team. I will get the chance to meet coach (Gary Kirsten) and others in the camps only. We have a good team which includes few explosive international players.”

Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen said that he would not use IPL to prove his critics wrong. Kevin was dropped from the England national cricket team in the starting of the year. He said that he had accepted the truth that he would not be able to play for his country again and he was trying to step ahead in his life. He said, “Rest from cricket was fantastic and I’m really excited to play in the IPL. I’ve not come here to prove anything and I never play cricket for that. I have got another chance to play in IPL which is special because I could not play in the last season because of injury and truth is also that I like this tournament. I have played cricket in every parts of the world and after playing for a decade I don’t need to prove anything to anyone”. Daredevils have purchased Pietersen for 15 lakh USD. He is sure about team’s good performance. He said, “We have talented team. It is a good mixture of international, Indian and domestic players. The most important job is to make everyone believe that this is like their own team. I went to Cape Town two weeks ago to meet Gary Kirsten and we properly analysed the program. Our aim is that every player performs best of their ability”. Kevin believes that being a totally new team will cause loss for the team.
